Medical imaging technology continues to evolve. Today's PET/CT scanners incorporate the best
elements of computed tomography (CT) and the latest techniques for metabolic analysis, Positron
Emission Tomography (PET) into a single unit. The process employs molecular F-18 deoxyglucose
(FDG) to determine the metabolic activity of tumor cells as FDG is distributed
throughout the body and accumulates in the areas of highest molecular activity before
they are visible at the anatomic level. The combined anatomical and metabolic
images greatly assist radiologists and oncologists in selecting the best treatment for each patient. |
